FAQs

Common Questions

What types of clients do you work with? HEART Therapy Services provides therapy for children, adolescents, parents, and families navigating relational challenges. Many of the families I work with are experiencing complex dynamics such as high-conflict parenting, relationship disruptions, attachment concerns, or family transitions. I frequently work with families who are seeking support for: Parent–child relationship repair Reunification therapy Family conflict and communication difficulties Emotional regulation challenges in children or adolescents ADHD-related relational stress within families Families navigating court involvement or significant family transitions My work focuses on helping families rebuild trust, improve emotional safety, and develop healthier relational patterns.

What is reunification therapy? Reunification therapy is a structured therapeutic process designed to help rebuild a relationship between a child and a parent after a period of separation, estrangement, or significant relational strain. This work typically involves: Individual preparation sessions with each family member Gradual, developmentally appropriate contact between the parent and child Skill-building for communication, emotional regulation, and trust repair Reunification therapy moves at a pace that prioritizes emotional safety and the needs of the child, while supporting both parents in creating a more stable relational environment.

Do you work with court-involved families? Yes. I frequently work with families who are involved in court processes, custody disputes, or other legal proceedings. When therapy is connected to a legal case, my role remains that of a treating therapist, focused on the therapeutic needs of the child and family. I may provide treatment summaries or collaborate with attorneys and other professionals when appropriate and with proper consent. My approach in these situations is always child-centered, developmentally informed, and focused on relational stability.

Do you provide evaluations or expert testimony? HEART Therapy Services primarily provides therapy, consultation, and clinical supervision, rather than formal forensic evaluations. However, I may provide: Treatment summaries Clinical observations related to therapeutic work Consultation with attorneys or professional teams involved in family cases If a case requires a formal forensic evaluation, I may recommend professionals who specialize in that type of assessment.

What is your therapeutic approach? My work is grounded in attachment science, relational neuroscience, and trauma-informed care. I frequently integrate elements from: Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI) Attachment-based family therapy Developmentally responsive parenting approaches Emotional regulation and relational repair strategies Rather than focusing solely on behavior change, therapy focuses on understanding the underlying relational and nervous system patterns that influence family dynamics. This approach helps families move from cycles of conflict or disconnection toward greater safety, regulation, and connection.

Do you offer parent coaching? Yes. Parent coaching can be a powerful part of supporting children and improving family relationships. Parent coaching focuses on: Understanding children's emotional and developmental needs Learning strategies to support regulation and connection Strengthening communication and relational trust Developing practical tools for navigating difficult situations In many cases, helping parents shift relational patterns can lead to significant improvements in family dynamics.

Do you provide clinical supervision? Yes. I provide clinical supervision for therapists and graduate interns who are seeking support in developing their clinical skills. Supervision may include: Case consultation Support with complex family dynamics Guidance around attachment-informed interventions Ethical and professional development My supervision style emphasizes thoughtful reflection, relational understanding, and practical clinical application.

Do you provide consultation for attorneys or professionals? Yes. I offer case consultation for attorneys, mental health professionals, and multidisciplinary teams working with complex family situations. Consultation may focus on: Understanding relational dynamics within a family system Developmental considerations for children Therapeutic implications in high-conflict family situations Supporting child-centered decision-making Consultation services are designed to help professionals better understand the relational and emotional dynamics impacting a case.

How long does therapy typically last? The length of therapy varies depending on the needs of the family and the goals of treatment. Some families benefit from short-term support focused on specific goals, while others engage in therapy for a longer period when addressing deeper relational patterns or rebuilding trust after significant disruptions. During the early sessions, we work together to develop a clear understanding of goals and expectations for the process.

How do we get started? The first step is to schedule an initial consultation or intake session. During this meeting we will: Discuss your concerns and goals Review the family history and current dynamics Determine whether HEART Therapy Services is the right fit for your needs Outline next steps for therapy If you would like to schedule an appointment or learn more about services, please reach out through the contact page.
